Yelagiri, 1,111 m is a small hill station located at an altitude of 1,111 m in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. The roads are nicely laid and lined with orchards, rose-gardens and green valleys. The tall trees form a nice canopy for long stretches and make the climb a comfortable one!Yelagiri base is approx. 140 km from Silk Board Junction, Bangalore. The distance from base to top is 11.5 km and there are 14 hairpin bends. The average gradient is 5 %. There is a 4 km stretch of straight road before the climb starts and this allows the muscles to get activated Unlike Nandi Hills, there is no traffic here! An occasional scooter or bike might pass you, but otherwise the only traffic you might get to encounter are goats and cows. During the monsoons, you can get to hear the peacocks engaging in some kind of a screaming contest before the fun fest! Monkeys watch you almost along the whole stretch and you just need to watch out when humans decide to stop and feed them.
